چکیده

Crosstalk due to four-wave mixing (FWM) is the dominant nonlinear effect in long-haul multi-channel optical communication systems which can severely limit system performance. In this paper, we have simulated the effect of chromatic dispersion on FWM using equal and unequal channel spacing in terms input/output spectrum, eye diagram and bit error rate. Results show that the effect of FWM reduces with the increasing dispersion coefficient, but the reduction is more effective for unequal channel spacing than equal channel spacing. But since, such a fiber is difficult to build, it is suggested that the FWM effect can be suppressed with increased flatter dispersion slope and unequal signal space. Keywords— Four-Wave Mixing, Wavelength-Division Multiplexing, Optical Communication, Chromatic Dispersion, BER, Q-factor and Eye diagram.

Suppression of Four Wave Mixing Based on the Pairing Combinations of Differently Linear-Polarized Optical Signals in WDM System

Data transmission in optical systems and increased transmission distance capacity benefit by using optical amplification wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology. The combination of four waves (FWM) is a non-linear effect in the wavelength division multiplex (WDM), when more than two wavelengths of light in a fiber launch will occur. FWM amount depends on the channel, the channel spaci...

Simulation Analysis of Four Wave Mixing Effect in WDM Optical System

The nonlinear effect degrades the system performance. Because nonlinear effects tend to manifest themselves when optical power is very high, they become important in WDM. Four-wave mixing (FWM) is one of the dominating degradation effects in wavelength divisionmultiplexing (WDM) systems with dense channel spacing and low chromatic dispersion on the fiber. Four wave mixing (FWM) is a parametric ...
